So You Think You Can Dance’: A Tribute to Breast Cancer Fighters -Dance moves judges to tears
By Chrissy Le Nguyen
On Wednesday’s episode of “So You Think You Can Dance,” contestants Ade and Melissa performed a contemporary routine inspired by breast cancer to Maxwell’s cover of Kate Bush’s “This Woman’s Work.”
Before the performance, choreographer Tyce Diorio explained, “I just felt compelled to talk about breast cancer and a friend who was faced with it.” The piece moved the entire judging panel to tears. Nigel Lythgoe proclaimed that it reminded him why he loved dance so much and, “If this isn’t a [an Emmy] nomination next year, I’ll be hugely surprised.” Nigel called the powerful lifts and leaps amazing, and admitted he completely lost it when Melissa pounded her fists against Ade’s chest.

The Yellow Balloons Continuation, 2007 Breast Cancer Race
Last year I videotaped the Las Vegas leg of the Race for the Cure and afterward edited several pieces for their website. One of the videos I made focused on a group of walkers headed up by Lisa Blythe. It was aptly named The Yellow Balloons. Lisa’s mother had breast cancer and Lisa organized a group of friends and family to walk in her behalf. At the end of the Race they released yellow balloons with cancer survivors’ and victims’ names written on them. I spent some time with Lisa. She was a very charming woman.
I returned this year hoping to see Lisa again and that there would be good news about her mother. Unfortunately, there was surprising and sad news. I made this video for the family. For more tributes please visit www.roxievideo.com
